World renowned, Grammy nominated drummer, Terri Lyne Carrington will be making a rare local appearance with her band at “The Vic” in Santa Monica this Thursday, July 29th. Don’t miss an opportunity to see her “up close and personal” …”The Vic” is a true listening room, with great food, atmosphere and acoustics.
Terri Lyne Carrington developed a reputation as a child prodigy, jamming with veterans Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, and Joe Williams and many more. She played her first public performance at the Wichita Jazz Festival with the great Clark Terry at age 10. By age 11, she had received a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music where she played with such musicians as Branford Marsalis, Kevin Eubanks, Mike Stern, Greg Osby and others.
In the 1980’s Terri became the drummer for “The Arsenio Hall Show” and later on the late night show, “Vibe” hosted by Sinbad. Her debut release”Real Life Story” was nominated for a Grammy and featured Carlos Santana, Patrice Rushen, Grover Washington, Jr. and others. She has toured the globe with Joe Sample, Al Jarreau and Wayne Shorter, to name only a few. Recently, Terri has been touring with Herbie Hancock and Cassandra Wilson, as well as her own stellar band and enjoying the success of her latest CD, “Jazz is A Spirit”.
