Today in music history...

Today, we celebrate the life and music of Patti Austin who was born on this day. She began singing at age 4 and has been bringing us beautiful music for 50 years.
Whether this truly underrated diva was "Talkin' About My Baby" or "My First Time Love" or telling us "It's A Big, Bad World" cause "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" or "Summer is the Coldest Time of Year" or maybe that "Every Home Should Have One" or making it better with a little bit of "Razzamatazz" or showing us her "Ability to Swing" or even taking us on a ride at "The Carnival", she has always given us "The Heat of Heat", "Through the Test of Time."
I think "We're In Love" was the first Patti Austin record that I can remember hearing of her music when I was in high school. I have been loving her ever since. The photo above was taken in April 1993 at a record signing at Rose Records in Chicago. I remember bring one more CD up for her to sign and saying to her, "I know you think I am a greedy bastard" so she signed my CD "To a Greedy Bastard....Love, Patti Austin!"
Patti, I wish you all the very best in love, music, and life on this special day and always.

Wow! That picture brings back memories! I was there myself that day and it was quite wonderful. I worked for Rose Records and was assigned to "assist" Patti. Sista is the best in the world no doubt. Funny as heck, but a class act all the way.
Thanks for the memories! Small world, ain't it?

I was thinking of you when we listened to the lullaby she does with Kenny Loggins last night. She can sing with anyone and it's sooooooooo wonderful. Hope all is well in your world.
