Happy Birthday Anita Baker!

Anita Baker
Editor’s Note: I am correcting this entry because I found out that Anita Baker’s birthday is 01/26, contrary to reading that it was 12/20 on several websites. I guess I will not be getting any backstage passes for her concerts. By the way, I have not seen any dates scheduled for the left coast yet but as soon as I do, I will let you know. Now we will return to your regularly scheduled progam.
Now don’t expect me to start wishing every singer birthday greetings. Well, maybe just a few. I was looking on Google to find reviews of Anita Baker’s concerts in Westbury, New York this week. I found a review on Newsday.com entitled Baker Works To Get Her Groove Back which talks about Anita working back into her niche. She turns 45 today and she has matured since Rapture had us caught up in the magic of Anita in 1986. It often amazes me how we want our artists to sound exactly the same and sing the same style of music as they did 20 years ago. I don’t even weigh the same as I did 20 years ago…lol!! I was reading on the Natalie Cole message board where her fans were giving her high praise for her latest release yet they wanted to hear her old stuff from the late 70’s and early 80’s. She has found a comfortable nice in her music at this point and I really don’t expect Natalie to re-recording “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” any time soon.
As for Anita, I am just glad she has returned to sing the music that she loves. No matter what or how she sings, I will have my “Same Ole Love” for her. Happy Birthday Anita!!!
Update: A review of Anita’s recent concert in Chicago from an avid Anita fan:
She was phenomenal. She has more of a range now, she can hit higher notes. Her appearance was great. I got to kiss her on the hand (thrill of my life for the year). She didn’t do anything from the Rhythm of Love CD. If I could I would definitely go again tonight.”

I want to say happy belated birthday to Anita. I was also born January 26th. My husband and I are both ministers in Atlanta, Georgia, and we want to record a gospel album featuring Anita. How do we get in touch with her? Where does she live?

I was at the concert in Westbury on Friday night. She was AMAZING. She talked to the crowd all night and was very funny. She sang for a full 2 hours and sounded even better than her CD. I LOVE HER! She is so tiny–she wore a red sequin dress and she looked fabulous. My husband and I are going to see her again in Atlantic City this Saturday!!!!!!

Hi everyone. This is Vicki again LOL Well, my husband and I went to AC to see Anita! She wore a black dress this time-the dress was ok-I didnt like it but she still looked great. The Taj was much bigger than Westbury, so it was a bit more “acustic” if you knwo what I mean. Anita was definitely the best still though! She sang the same set she did in NY and she still sounded wonderful. After the 2nd song, people got out of their seats and gave her some roses, etc. She sang a whole song bending down on her knees shaking peoples hands and did not miss a beat. She is so incredible. Even though I enjoyed Westbury a bit more (Since I was spoiled with 5th row seats in a small forum LOL) I still enjoyed her in AC.
A hint-if you ever go see Anita–she goes off stage and then comes back to sing “Angel” and “Fairytales”. It was sorta funny-=when she went off stage, so many people left and then she came back out! I have some close up pics of her that my husband took while she was shaking everyones hand–of course, he had to be in the mix LOL Is there a way to post them on here?

I ATTENDED MS BAKERS CONCERT LAST YEAR AT THE STAR
PLAZA. SHE WAS EXCELLENT. I WAS SURPRISED WITH THE NEW LOOK… LONG HAIR, PONY TAIL, A FEW EXTRA
POUNDS, BUT SHE LOOKED FABULOUS. THOSE VOCAL PIPES DID NOT CHANGE ONE BIT. SHE WAS ELEGANT,
BEAUTIFUL AND SIMPLY ANITA. HER PERSONALITY WAS
SO WARM AND CORDIAL. I GAVE HER SOME FLOWERS. SHE
BLEW ME A KISS AND SHOOK MY HAND (NEVER TO BE WASHED AGAIN…),NOTHING COMPARES TO THIS DIVA.
