Devotion…

Today is devoted to enjoying the day. Spring is here. The weather is great and I am going out to be a part of it.
Much love, thanks, and devotion to my “web magician”
Gwen for the fresh new
j-notes banner. You are truly a great talent.
Today’s flowers are devoted to the supermom of moms,
A.J., who’s celebrating her birthday today.
The 2003
Monterey Jazz Festival schedule came out on Friday. The artist lineup includes
Carla Cook,
Mary Stallings,
Herbie Hancock,
Nnenna Freelon,
Bobby Hutcherson, and
The Crusaders featuring
Randy Crawford which should definitely be a treat. On a side note, it was in 1979 when Randy recorded “
Streetlife” with The Crusaders.
Check out the
Soul Brother Records website for funk, soul, organic soul, nu-jazz, jazz and all kinds of good grooves. Thanks Dee!
For the baking fans, I made the
cranberry oatmeal chocolate chip cookies using dried cherries instead of cranberries. Yummy!!
MAXJAZZ vocalist
René Marie will be performing in Chicago for a benefit on April 3 and at the
Green Dolphin Street on April 4 and 5.

MWAH.
love the new banner! looks great!
awww. it’s all so sweet and purty.
thanks for making me smile.
I’ve never heard Randy’s version — But I am aware of Lalah Hathaway’s version with Joe Sample — I’ll have to track down the version with Randy. All this talk of cookies … I might have to bake a batch myself and see what the results are.
A Little Monday Flashback….
For the record, 3 of the songs which Lalah Hathaway recorded with Joe Sample on “The Song Lives On” were originally recorded by Randy Crawford. “Streetlife” was recorded with The Crusaders in 1979 and “One Day I’ll Fly Away” and “When Your Life Was Low” were recorded on Randy’s “Now We May Begin” album in 1980 which was produced by The Crusaders. You can now imagine my excitement about hearing about them joining forces again after an over 20 year hiatus.
As for the cookies, let me know how your batch turns out.
“When Your Life Was Low” was originally recorded on Randy Crawford’s “Now We May Begin” album in 1980? I had no idea. That’s my favorite track on “The Song Lives On.” Your knowlegde of music and musical tastes remind me so much of a good friend of mine (who is a music writer with the most awesome and diverse taste as well as the coolest mofo on the planet)…
That banner is so breathtaking..
THANKS for the cookie recipe….Soul Brothers link….and gorgeous orchids to gaze upon! got all I need to keep me happy now for a while.
Thank you so much for the info. I so want to send my Mom to the festival Randy Crawford is one of her favorites and thus she became one of mine. “When Your Life Was Low” is one of my mother’s athems and I hope I can make this trip happen for her.
By the way, I’m on my way to buy that Lalah Hathaway/Joe Sample joint. I have worn out her freshman cd.
Liner notes, sweeties.
