What is Nu Jazz?

I was in my local record store over the weekend and noticed a new category called Nu Jazz in the jazz section. I asked about it and found out that Nu Jazz is a more electronic version of acid jazz. I would like to learn a bit more about this new genre of music. I searched Google but I was unable to find any articles on Nu Jazz so if you know where I can find more information, please leave me a comment or send me an email.

  1. This could take a minute. I’ll get back. By the way, if you ever make it to Dusty Groove in Chicago, you will see even more genre-melding categories.

I’m enjoying my copy of Matthew Shipp’s “Nu Bop.”
I almost picked up Herbie Hancock’s “Future II Future” CD at a wrecka’stow this morning in Oakland.
I got a thrill or three out of Jazzanova’s “In/Between” and Koop’s “Music for Koop” during the last week.

Oh, and if someone’s called it “broken beat,” very often it’ll make me prick up my ears.

between George and Jason, I was able to get into Jazzanova and Waltz For Koop. Your birthday’s coming up….stay tuned for the music.

NuJazz- I noticed a satellite channel for NuJazz…The artists put me in the mind of Fusion back in the day. Yes it is very electric. Matthew SHipps NuBop is a highly “educated” version of NuJazz…. Electronica but a lot of fine technique.

Nu Jazz ? a current name for ‘acid jazz’. Probably
another way to market jazz that grooves.
Its cool, I like it. The magazine ‘Straight No Chaser’ is probably the only zine thats hip to the
    groove Nu Jazz.
