The j-notes groove…

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles

The past few days have been a little busy for me. Friday night, I went to see Christian McBride at Yoshi’s. Saturday night, I saw Soulive at The Fillmore and Monday, I made a little road trip to LA to see Lizz Wright at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts. All were excellent shows and I will have reviews posted later in the week along with a new Flashback Friday entry that I am sure you will enjoy.
It rained all day while I was LA. I stopped off at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood for lunch and was served enough waffles and gospel bird to feed a family of five. An interesting lesson I learned, fly gear is universal. I saw a good suburban kid rockin’ a Gucci bucket hat and gold chain with a cross while his mom was rockin’ a white velour Phat Farm jogging suit [laughs]. I was saddened by the number of homeless people I saw in the rain. As we pay our taxes today, we know our monies will go towards paying for this senseless war while the homeless still continue to suffer.
On a happier note, I stopped into Amoeba and found a couple of gems. I picked up “Q: The Musical Biography of Quincy Jones” and Christian McBride’sVertical Vision.”

Let it be known that J came all the way to Southern California and didn’t bring a brotha a batch of cookies … But it’s alright and it’s okay … ’cause I’m going to book a trip to Oakland!
In all seriousness — I’m glad to hear that the trip to Southern California was well enjoyed. A trip to Amoeba, Lizz Wright at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts, and Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. I’m guessing the suburban kid and his mother was a bonus treat for you.
I’ll be waiting on those reviews and the flashback!

Did someone say Pavlov’s dog? Oh the memories of Roscoe’s. Our last jaunt to L.A., we did a 2am stop at FATBURGER

Road trip indeed. I agree with Antonio – how u gonna come to LA and not bring cookies? LOL
Amoeba is without question one of the best record stores in LA. Fishbone did a show there a couple of weeks ago and Lucinda Williams will be there April 9. And now that you mention it, I do need some new music and I do have some time to kill this afternoon…
