Jazz on the River Features Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, A Salute to the Music of Frank Sinatra by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Dave Holland Big Band, The Pat Metheny Trio, Dan Hicks, Chris Botti, Carla Bley and More
GUERNEVILLE, CA – This year’s festival will be music to the ears of jazz aficionados when the best big bands and other jazz greats perform at the 2005 Jazz on the River on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, at Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville. Jazz on the River continues the 29-year tradition of bringing world-class jazz along the banks of the beautiful Russian River. This year’s festival features a rich and diverse lineup that runs the full spectrum of the state of jazz—from Afro-Cuban and Latin to big band; from straight-ahead to contemporary and modern. Many of the great players from the New York jazz scene will perform at the 2005 festival.
The 2005 Jazz on the River lineup includes: The Pat Metheny Trio with Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez; Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Arturo O’Farrill and special guest Paquito D’Rivera; Chris Botti; Dave Holland Big Band; Guitars and Saxes featuring Mindi Abair, Jeff Golub, Warren Hill and Wayman Tisdale; Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks; Carla Bley The Lost Chords with Andy Sheppard, Steve Swallow and Billy Drummond; A Salute to the Music of Frank Sinatra by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra directed by Christopher Riddle featuring guest vocalist Bryan Anthony; Kim Nalley; Cedar Walton Quartet; and the Benny Barth Trio.
Produced by Lupe De Leon, long-time producer of the Russian River Blues Festival, Jazz on the River combines the best in jazz, food and wine into a memorable festival for all ages to enjoy. For a nominal fee, in addition to world-class jazz, patrons can sample Sonoma County and the Russian River Wine Region’s world-famous wines in the Wine Garden while enjoying the music of the Benny Barth Trio.
