San Jose Jazz Festival Sunday Series

SAN JOSÉ, Calif., November 29, 2005 – The San Jose Jazz Society (www.sanjosejazz.org) today announced the lineup for the 18th Annual Sunday Jazz Series. For twelve Sundays beginning January 8, 2006, downtown San Jose will once again host some of the best names in Bay Area and national jazz. Top performers include 2005 Comcast San Jose Jazz Festival artists, vocalist Mary Stallings, saxophonist Kristen Strom, and vocalist Michelle Amador. The lineup also includes returning favorites, vocalist Jamie Davis and saxophonist Aaron Lington, and new to the series, vocalist Paula West and Latin jazz pianist Mark Levine.
The Sunday Series will take place at a new location this year, the Improv, 62 S. Second Street in downtown San Jose,. The San Jose Jazz Society and the Improv are working together to bring new excitement to downtown San Jose. All performances begin at 3:00 pm.
The Sunday Series is made possible in part by First American Title and Silicon Valley Community Newspapers.
“The Sunday Series has been a Silicon Valley favorite for more almost two decades,” said Geoff Roach, executive director of the San Jose Jazz Society. “This year we are thrilled to be in the Improv. Music lovers will truly enjoy the acoustics and jazz lovers will love the increase seating capacity. Each year the Sunday Series sells out on subscription so this new venue will make this great music available to more people throughout the Bay Area.”
Highlights of the 2006 season include a dynamic mix of powerful vocals and inspiring instrumentalists. To start off with a bang, the Sunday Series kicks off with vocalist Mary Stallings (January 8, 2006) whose long career in jazz and latest CD release “Live at the Village Vanguard” has brought her critical acclaim. Modern jazz vocalist Michelle Amador, whose 2006 Festival performance received a standing ovation, returns January 15, 2006. Bay Area favorite, saxophonist Kristen Strom, performs February 26. Strom’s recent CD Release “Intention” (Open Path Studios) has created a strong buzz in the jazz scene. One of the most anticipated shows takes place March 26, 2006, with luxurious vocals by bi-coastal vocal favorite Paula West.
