I think this has been one of the most challenging and exciting years since I started this blog 8 years ago.

You will first notice the new blog design. Back in September, I accidentally deleted this blog. It presented me with a dilemma on whether to start all over from scratch or retire into blog history. I was able to recover most of the blog entries. I really like the new design because it is reflective of my artistic journey. It definitely has me excited about writing and sharing photos with you. Stay tuned!

Here are some of the highlights from the past year:

• Photographed concerts at the following venues for my first time – Davies Symphony Hall, SF Conservatory of Music, Firehouse Arts Center, and Fioli Gardens.
• Destination Oakland Photo Contest Winner – 2nd Place (Jeremy Pelt photo) & Merit Award (Natalie Cole photo) – http://oaklandcvb.com/media_photocontest.cfm
• Diablo Magazine Flickr Pic of the Week – http://www.diablomag.com/D-blog/Diablo-Flickr-Pic-of-the-Week/July-2010/July-27-August-3/
• Participated in two outstanding photography exhibits – Generations in Jazz: Four Photographers @ Martin Luther King, Jr. Library for Jazz Appreciation Month with San Jose Jazz Festival and Hears Looking: A Visual Essay in Jazz and Blues at You at San Leandro Public Library.
• Photographing trumpeter Christian Scott at the Toronto Jazz Festival. Also got to see Macy Gray at the festival.
• I created a dedicated photography website – James Barry Knox Photography. Please stop by.
• I had the pleasure of interviewing Loretta Devine and Lalah Hathaway. It was an incredible experience. More podcasts to come!
• The radio blogs are back!!!
• I talked about the new blog design earlier but I also wanted to mention that the current photos in the rotating banner are Patti Austin, Cindy Blackman, Patrice Rushen, Terrence Brewer, and Fabian Almazan. I plan to change these up every couple of months.

What’s next? I am preparing for a jazz photography exhibit at the Berkeley Public Library from March 7, 2011 – May 2, 2011. More details to come.
